How we calculate Facebook reach
Reach shows how many distinct people saw the post; impressions count views, which can repeat.
Use the Facebook Reach CalculatorFormula
reach (%) = (reach ÷ followers) × 100
frequency = impressions ÷ reach
Variables
- followers
- The page's fan base.
- reach
- Unique people reached.
- impressions
- Total views, including repeats.
Step-by-step calculation
- We divide reach by the follower base.
- We calculate how many times, on average, each person saw the content.
Worked example
Inputs
- Reach of 6,000
- 18,000 impressions
Calculation
6,000 ÷ 40,000 = 15%
18,000 ÷ 6,000 = 3
15% organic reach and an average frequency of 3 views per person.
Common mistakes
- Adding up reach across different posts: people overlap.
- Mixing paid and organic reach in the same reading.
